IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT YOUR DRINKING WATER
PINE BUSH W.D. Failed to Provide Adequate Disinfection
Our water system recently violated a drinking water standard. Although this is not an emergency, as our customers, you have a right to know what happened, what you should do, and what we are doing to correct this situation.
We routinely monitor for the presence of our required disinfectant, chlorine, in our water system. We are required to provide chlorine residual continuously in our water system and record daily readings on Monthly Operation Reports submitted to the Orange County Department of Health (OCDOH). On September 26, 2026 we failed to provide adequate chlorine residual in the water system.
What should I do?
You do not need to use an alternative (e.g., bottled) water supply. However, if you have specific health concerns, consult your doctor.
What happened? What is being done?
The routine Monthly Operation Report showed free chlorine residuals of 0.03 mg/L and 0.18 mg/L at the MAIN and DUBOIS Treatment Plant Entry Points, respectively, on September 26th, 2026, under the minimum required 0.2 mg/L at the entry point. Disinfection is used to destroy harmful microbes that can be in drinking water. Disinfection was reported as restored on September 27th, 2026 on the report.
The low chlorine residuals were caused by issues with the chemical feed equipment. Upon identifying the issue, operations personnel immediately investigated and took corrective action. The chemical feed issues were resolved the same day, September 26th, 2026, and normal disinfection operations were restored. Adequate chlorine residuals were confirmed on September 27th, 2026.
Harmful microbes in drinking water can cause diarrhea, cramps, nausea, headaches, or other symptom and may pose a special health risk for infants, some elderly, and people with severely compromised immune systems. But these symptoms are not just caused by microbes in drinking water. If you experience any of these symptoms and they persist, you should seek medical advice.
Disinfection will be recorded as required on all future reports.
