TOWN OF CRAWFORD

RESOLUTION INTRODUCING LOCAL LAW

AND PROVIDING FOR PUBLIC NOTICE AND HEARING

 

BE IT RESOLVED that an introductory Local Law, entitled “Opt-Out of Allowing Cannabis Dispensaries and On-Site Cannabis Consumption Establishments,” which local law would opt-out the Town of Crawford from the state statute authorizing towns to allow the licensing and establishing of cannabis retail dispensaries and/or cannabis on-site consumption establishments within the Town, and thus prohibit such establishments in the Town of Crawford be and it hereby is introduced by Supervisor Charles Carnes before the Town Board of the Town of Crawford in the County of Orange and State of New York, and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of the aforesaid proposed local law be laid upon the desk of each member of the Board, and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Board hold a public hearing on said proposed local law at the Town Hall, 121 State Route 302, in the Town of Crawford, Pine Bush, New York at 7:00 P.M. on June 17, 2021, and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk publish or cause to be published a public notice in the official newspaper of the Town of Crawford of said public hearing at least five (5) days prior thereto.

 On a motion by Councilman Daniel Flanick seconded by Councilman Michael Menendez the resolution was adopted on a vote of 5 Ayes, 0 Nays.

The Supervisor declared this resolution adopted.

HEARING OF COMPLAINTS

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Assessor of the Town of Crawford, County of Orange, has completed the Tentative Assessment Roll for the current year:  2021, and that a copy thereof is available at the Assessor’s Office, by appointment only, and on the Town’s website at http://townofcrawford.org where it may be seen and examined by any interested person until the

THE FOURTH WEDNESDAY OF MAY; MAY 26, 2021, and that on such day between the hours of 9:00 am and 12:00 pm; 6:00 pm and 8:00 pm, the Board of Assessment Review for the Town of Crawford will meet to hear and examine all verified written complaints in relation to such assessments, and the application of any person believing himself aggrieved thereby.

RP-524 complaint forms with all supporting documentation must be filed with the Assessor’s Office via mail or Drop Box on or before 8:00 p.m. on May 26, 2021.  The RP-524 complaint form is available at the Assessor’s Office, by appointment only, and may be found on the Town of Crawford’s website at http://townofcrawford.org.

The Assessor is a local government official who is obligated by New York state law to maintain assessment at a uniform percentage of the market value each year.  In order to maintain a uniform roll, each year your assessor will need to analyze all of the properties in the municipality; which may include ongoing physical inspections and also taking exterior pictures of parcels.  The assessor also reviews every transfer of real property for accuracy.

The assessor also performs many other administrative functions, such as approving and maintaining property tax exemptions.  Among the most common are the Senior Citizen STAR, Veteran, Agricultural, Non-Profit and Business exemptions.  All exemptions are due in our office by March 1st.  You may call our office directly for information and requirements.  All subdivisions and lot-line changes are completed by the assessor.

The assessor is continually communicating with the public, answering questions and dealing with concerns raised by taxpayers.

Attention New Homeowners

A MESSAGE FROM THE ASSESSOR’S OFFICE: Be Aware of Property Tax Appeal Company’s which are doing mass mailings trying to get homeowners to sign up to review your property assessment. These companies will charge a fee if you receive any reduction. In the fine print there is also a $75 fee for an appraisal and a $30 court filing fee. Sometimes a penalty fee is also added if you decide to withdraw your case. Please contact the Assessor’s Office before you sign anything. We will gladly review your assessment and property records with you and make any necessary adjustments. It’s what we do! Another unnecessary expense are companies offering to get you a copy of your deed. Again, contact the Assessor’s office and we will advise you how to do that.  845-744-3721.
